Chambray is denim’s soft-spoken sibling. Like denim, it functions as a neutral but it’s far from plain. Our chambray tunic is sewn by women in a family-run workshop in Oaxaca, Mexico, using a slightly more substantial fabric than the summer-weight chambrays you may have seen, allowing us to tailor it for just a touch of definition.
Then a fair trade embroidery group of Zapotec women embellish the neckline by hand. They’re using craft skills that most learned from their mothers and grandmothers, and they’re able to work at home at their own pace.
We love how this tunic fits, we love the inspired embroidery, and we love knowing that it helps support women’s work around the world. Oh, and we really love that it has on-seam hand pockets.
(PS: It’s pronounced “wah-HA-cah” and we think it belongs on everyone’s travel bucket list.)
